DALLAS BOA

  • WHAT TO PACK -

Below please find a little info about what to have your kids pack, in addition to all the items Mr. Ruiz asks of the band members and Mr. Garrow asks of the guard students.

    • Deodorant
    • Proper undergarments (humidity and sweat cause chaffing).
    • Girls: hairbrush, rubber bands, headbands, and bobby pins for French braids.
    • Boys must be clean-shaven, please.
    • Blanket and pillow (bus gets cold).
    • Snacks.
    • Water bottle for bus.
    • Hand sanitizer (flu season is upon us, please practice proper handwashing).
    • Homework to work on during free time.
    • Comfy clothes for the ride to and from our destinations.

Whatever is taken on the bus is your child’s responsibility.  We cannot be held accountable for items that are lost, damaged, or missing, therefore, it is not recommended to take expensive items on the trip.

  • ATTENDING THE EVENT -

If you will be in Dallas to see the band perform and wish to take your child with you at the end of the evening, please note the following:

    • You must notify Mr. Ruiz be e-mail by Monday.
    • Send a note with your child Saturday morning.
    • The note should be handed to Shari Killebrew  or Cindy Dominguez our chaperone parents.

To pick up your child, you need to meet your child at the buses and let the bus chaperone know that you are taking your child.  No child will be permitted to leave unless the chaperones make eye contact with the parents.

Remember the children are on a school business trip and have to remain in competition mode by getting some rest and working on homework, therefore we ask that there not be distractions from outside friends or family.  Also, we have allotted meals, snacks, and water for the entire band and guard, directors, techs, chaperones, and crew members that work the entire trip, and unfortunately we cannot supply meals for visiting families.  Please make arrangements to have your own food if you visit.

Remember, these rules are to insure the safety of our students.

  • WHERE TO GET UPDATES ABOUT THE COMPETITIONS -

If you are not going to Dallas, but want to keep tabs on what is happening, there is a website to keep you updated - musicforall.org  Although you won't get detailed information, you can pay a fee of $24.95 for a live web cast of all band performances.  Also, they will post finalists as announced, finalist's performance times and placement at the end of the evening.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT -

Preliminary performances start Friday (starting at 3pm) and continue throughout Saturday until about 4:30 p.m.

Churchill Band is scheduled to perform Saturday at 9:30am

Final performances run until around 9:30pm.  At approximately 9:45 all of the finalist bands are marched onto the field in a wonderful display of color and then placements are announced.
